Sgt. Joshua Cope's family continues to spend painful moments at his bedside as complications make recovery all the more difficult.

Cope, who's from Panama City Beach, lost both of his legs when his Humvee hit a landmine in Baghdad last month.

Saturday Cope's mother told Newschannel 7 he's facing blood clots in his lungs and a possible infection in one of his amputated legs.

Linda Cope, the wounded soldier's mother, said, "Yesterday when he was doing his dressings he was just doing breathing exercises because it was so painful for him, and the tears were just running down his face. But, you know, he's not going to complain and you know it just breaks a momma's heart. He's an inspiration to everybody. All the family that's come to see him are amazed because, you know, a lot of us, if we just stub our toe, it would be frustrating."

Cope spent much of the day Saturday in surgery. His mother says she and his brother Jake will stay at his bedside.

His father and brother Jonathan will return to Panama City to go to back work and school.

Cope says prayer and letters from church and community have helped them keep in good spirits over the past few weeks.
