Panhandle air travelers may want to look for cheaper flights to more destinations coming in a year or so.
In the last week officials from Southwest Airlines have been in the panhandle talking to airport directors from Okaloosa-Walton, Panama City and Pensacola .
Insiders are saying they expect southwest to move in somewhere along the Emerald Coast . The airports are competing for the new service.
Okaloosa-Walton officials think their chances are good because they have a new terminal, but Panama City is soon to have a brand new airport.
Wherever and whenever Southwest decides to come to the area, business leaders expect more tourists, business growth, and much improved travel options.
Southwest downplays the meetings as routine and has yet to commit to anything. Panama City's airport director declined to comment on their meetings.
