Northwest Florida has more military retirees and veterans than any other congressional district in America. Yet there is no V-A hospital. That could be changing.
Congressman Jeff Miller was successful in attaching an amendment to a new veterans bill that includes a study for a full service V-A hospital in Okaloosa County.
One option would be for Eglin Air Force Base to build and operate with the hospital in-partnership with the V-A.
Both the House and Senate have passed the bill, which now goes to President Bush for his signature.
If he approves, that study would have to be conducted within 180-days.
