A Florida alert system that notifies residents when a registered sex offender or predator moves into a designated area has reached a million notices.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced Wednesday that its Florida Offender Alert System reached the milestone Tuesday. The alert system was launched last year.
Subscribers also can choose to track an offender or predator and receive notifications each time he or she moves by e-mail. Residents may select an unlimited number of addresses and offenders and predators to track and can update their selections at any time for free.
The alert system will send e-mail notifications within 24 to 48 hours of an address change to the state's registry.
