Rep. Boyd Faces Protests on Energy Vote
Representative Allen Boyd spent most of Tuesday in Bay County, talking to local business leaders about a number of issues, including the economy. During an appearance at Gulf Coast Community College, several hundred protesters voiced their disapproval over Boyd's vote last week on the "cap and trade" bill.

As an aspiring meteorologist, I can say one thing- climate change is not happening. I've met an expert on this issue and gave him my opinion, which he supported.

Allen Boyd made the best choice for our region. I thank him for understanding that we need to redefine how it is we consume and generate electricity and figure out how we can sell it to the rest of the World. Kudos to the congressman for thinking about voting for an approach which has proven to work and will continue to work.

"Cap-and-Trade" is not going to do much to break our dependence on foreign oil. Mr. Boyd is just another puppet of Nancy Pelosi. If this bill passes, it could cost all of us a thousand dollars are more a year in energy taxes. Mr. Boyd seems to be another puppet of Nancy Pelosi and Obama.

This bill will NOT make us more independent on foreign oil. It will push our economy further towards a full-scale depression. Hey, Kevin, have you even read the Cap & Trade legislation...or do you simply listen to the news media?

I really believe that all the noise is being casued by a few ultra-right wing groups led by the likes of Rush Limbaugh. Congressman Boyd did the responsible thing. He set in motion our independence from foreign oil - it hard pill to swallow for those that want to preserve the status quo or score cheap political points.

Thank God for Congressman Boyd for showing important leadership. We cannot keep putting out pollution from cars and power plants as if there is no consequence. We can transform to clean energy and it does not have to be a financial burden. Electric rates in Florida went up 41% from 2000 to 2006 for fossil fuels. I read several studies that showed consumers will save money with the energy efficiency provision in the bill. I hope Senators Martinez and Nelson will show the same good sense as Boyd and get this bill through The Senate.

Sadly, I doubt the 2nd Congressional District will have there say come election time. The people of Panama City and Tallahassee keep sending him to Washington to do the same crappy job. Of course some of this falls on RPOF for failing to convince a Republican worth anything to run against the fake Blue Dog. I mean getting Bev Kilmer as the sacrifical lamb is a joke. Please someone get a real person to run against Boyd and send him back to his farm, where he can continue to take taxpayer money in the form of farm subsidies. Boyd does not represent NW Florida, Boyd represents Boyd.

I assume that all the protesters will of course come back and apologize to Rep. Allen once their rhetoric and fears prove unfounded. I thought he did a good, rational job of explaining the bill's intent. Previously I was Doubting Thomas about "cap-and-trade" but time and its success have persuaded me - it has worked, both in the U.S. and Europe. It is not the whole solution, but is part of the solution. Perhaps deniers need a little more education about the science (try the National Academy of Science, not Fox News or Rush Limbaugh), the economics of the Act (ask someone like Duke Energy), and appreciate the cost of doing nothing (see any of the National Academy of Science or the recent White House reports). The last thing we need is misguided spin-mantras like "Drill, Baby, Drill". We cannot drill our way out of Climate Change - that way truly does bring disaster.

Allen Boyd is a liar. The bill that he voted YES on, against the desire of his constituents, will not allow small business to grow and will cause an increase in electricity and energy for all Americans. This "Energy Emergency" is a farce being forced upon the American people and the press is just playing into it. Educate yourself Americans or face the consequences of Government Education.
