Phone Bill Increase on the Horizon
Legislation deregulating phone companies went into effect today. The legislation allows your landline bill to go up by as much as 20 percent every year. While most people will be paying more, some will actually get a break on their bills.

This is a free market & country. There will almoast always be someone (company) out there trying to offer you better service at a better price than their competitors. This might actually turn out to be a good thing. Especially in todays economic times. Like the gas station price wars of yester year.

Don't cry now. You are the same ultra right wingers that always talk about less government involvement. The government steps out of the way and now you want them back in. Well this the free market. It you don't want to pay then just don't have a cell phone or home phone. It's simple.

"Ever REALLY read the terms & conditions of your cell ph contract? Get ready to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay a lawyer to end one of those!!" Thats why i never renewed my contract. I think alot of people get cought up with the cell phone companies pressuring their clients, to renew their contracts. When in all truth, once your contract ends you DO NOT have to renew the contract to continue service. I havent had a cell phone contract in the last 4 years. Still get the same service, at the same price it always has been, AND BEST of all, if they wanna play games with me over the services i use, i can tell them to cram it & cancell my service without having to pay to void a contract.

I read the News Herald & watch Channel 7 every day - why is this "new" news to me?? If they were under the PSC until now, why no hearings or public input? Or,is this another "digital TV" FCC fiasco? We pay more for less so that they can make more $$$? At over $100 per month, I get to watch reruns & C-span? Networks spend less to produce quality and THANK GOD I have no children under 12 to watch all the "male & female enhancement commercials" on network TV at 6:30 pm? This isn't about the "economy" - this is about "greed"!! Ever REALLY read the terms & conditions of your cell ph contract? Get ready to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay a lawyer to end one of those!!

This sure dosent make any sense in these troubled & difficult times. The land line phone companies might just wind up shooting them selfs in the foot if they start raising the rates. These days most people have cellular phones that usually cost less per minute, than most land line phone services. The article states that people with basic land line phone services will not be affected. Rest assured, if the phone companies need more income, they will find a way to do away with the basic service & force people into a higher level of service, at a higher price that they will be able to increase their rates on, at will.

Taxes on cigarettes are going up (but not on alcohol, a major killer here in Florida). Car registration is also going up. Now phone bills will be going up. Many people are out of a job or else somehow suffering because of the economy. None of these rising costs are helping. Soon Florida is going to be the land only for the very rich who come down here to retire. Fortunately all us poor people will be without homes so real estate developers will be able to build a few more condos.

With the economy in a slump our "elected representives" do something stupid that will cost the consumer more money. Small increases might have been ok, but 20 percent per year. That's almost theft. How about we decrease their salaries by 20 percent per year. I don't think they would like that either. Maybe they should try living on 25-30,000 per year. A dream would be for our elected representives to actually represent the people that put them in office. Right now its a nightmare.
