At Wednesday's press conference, Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen says, "Even criminals frown on this type of behavior." Authorities unloaded shopping carts full of computer equipment Wednesday afternoon allegedly used by a local kiddie porn ring. They say the computers belonged to nine local men, who are all facing child pornography charges. Investigators say the material was as graphic as they've ever seen. Sheriff McKeithen says, "We're talking about pornography as bad as two-year-old children being raped. This is some of the worst of the worst."

The suspects range in age from 57 to just 14-years-old. Marcus Alexander Pierce, Brian E. Glass, John Goodwin Funk, Nicholas Sabastian Spriggs, Jason Alan Strickland, Jared Caldwell Coleman, Michael Wayne McCollum, Robert Bruce Trend and Arturo Palukaitis were all arrested Tuesday.

Investigators say they were able to target the men through file-sharing programs, seizing 19 computers during the operation. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, four municipal police departments and three county sheriff's offices participated in the raids, issuing 16-search warrants. Those involved say it was unprecedented in scope.

Mike Phillips with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement says, "Having led these type of operations around the state, I can tell you we have never done that." Officials also issued a warning to people with wireless internet connections. They say two of the suspects accessed unsecured wireless networks to download the porn. Phillips: "Someone in that close proximity was accessing that person's router and downloading that child pornography."

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime lab will examine each of the computers for more evidence, which could take months. Depending on what they find, the suspects could face more charges, and there could be more arrests.

FDLE investigators say the child porn problem is growing. They say they monitored 14,000 computers downloading kiddie porn here in Florida in just one day early last month. On the plus side, technological advances are making it easier for authorities to track people downloading and sharing child pornography.
