I hope these boys learn from their mistake and keep a closer eye on the weather during future controlled burns. Controlled burns are a good thing because they clear brush that could cause huge fires like the one we had when the control burn got out of hand. The Florida Division of Forestry is to blame here and I think they need to be trained better and should plan controlled burns more carefully.

I can understand that you need a job and work to pay for your family, but there are other weekends, oter days,,,,,,NOT this weekend NOR when we are under a fire safety warning. How wuld you feel Annoymous, if your house and family lived near this burn site that went out-of-control?? People with resiratory problems, yes this is a big issue!! Also, I know there were no helicopters dumping water over the site, I saw 1 checking out the site to see how far it had spread. This is sheer incompetency.

What a bunch of morons. I couldn't write this level of comedy. Fire danger warnings all over the place last week, and these Einstein's decide to light up 600 acres. I just love Bay County. Really, I do.

Great planning by our public officials. The biggest weekend of the year, thousands of tourists coming to the beach and what do we arrange for them? An enviroment tainted by the smell of smoldering fires. It's Saturday am. and the air is still thick with smoke. Happy 4th of July. And a very special thanks to the people responsible for this situation.

Is it against policy for anyone with any brains to run for office in Bay County. The one thing we aren't short of is stupidity.

Well what is Stupid is If there is A fire Safety Warning because it has been so hot and made everything so Dry then why would you even think of having a controlled Burn. who ever gave them the permits to do it should be held Responsible.

I was on this fire all day and the News cast at 6 p.m was completely false, except for the part about the 60 acres that were not supposed to burn and the wind change. A helicopter never arrived to dump water on the fire. Every state in the country has controlled burns. Just because it is a holiday weekend doesnt mean we don't need to work and bring home a check. This is our job that we do daily. The wind change was an act of God, not something St.Joe did. I am sorry if you do not like control burns ,but it is the way me and my co-workers provide for our families.

If the prescribed burn was under control, why did the burn become a health hazard to many people with respiratory problems? Is the St Joe company really that stupid or does Bay County really need their money over the safety of their residents?

That was a real smart move to have the air full of smoke at a time when tourist are coming into the area. Guess that took the place of painting the brigde or resurfacing hwy 98 east to west.

Why is St. Joe being allowed to do such a large burn on one of the busiest weeks of the year? I hope they will have some reprimand for all the coughing fits and wrecks this is causing.

I'd like to know who thought it would be a good idea to do a fire burn on a day where there was a storm coming with the possibility of 50 mile an hour winds.
