Panama City is home to the oldest continual 4th of July fireworks extravaganza in Northwest Florida.

And this year's display will also be the biggest.

Almost $50,000 dollars worth of pyrotechnics has required a lot of pre-planning on both the company as well as the Downtown Improvement Board.

The DIB has been saving for this special 4th of July- Panama City Centennial Celebration Fireworks Show for the last four years.

The crew has been working 12 hours a day for the last week on the show and say it's one of the biggest in the Northwest Florida area's history.

Dutch Sanger with the Downtown Imp. Board says, "I checked it today and it is one of the largest in northwest Florida."

The show will include two barges and twice as much as they usually present.

The Panama City Salute to Freedom Celebration takes place at the Downtown Marina, beginning at 10:00p.m. today, with entertainment and attractions all day.

The Tyndall fly-over will take place at 5:00p.m., with the fireworks showing beginning at 9:00p.m..

We attended your fireworks show last year and it was well worth the trip. It was beautiful and "lit up". I think it is one of the best fireworks show I have ever attended. Thank you for putting on such a show. Yes we will be attending again this year.

That's $50 grand well-spent. With President Obama and another 3-plus years, we may not have a country, let alone freedom and independence in 2012. Smoke 'em if ya got 'em.
