This holiday weekend is probably one a Cottondale family will never forget as an over night fire destroyed and forced them out of their home.
The fire broke out at Trent and Amy Broome's home early Sunday morning, according to Bob Pearce with the Central Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The home at 2226 Bethlehem Road in Cottondale did not burn to the ground, but sustained enough damage to force the Broome family and their three children out.
The Jackson County Red Cross Disaster Action Team members responded around 3a.m. to the fire.
The organization is providing assistance to meet the Broome families' immediate needs for clothing, food and shelter.
The the Central Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross is not a government agency and receives no government funding.
