The usually quiet Gordy Lane neighborhood in Chipley has been rocked to its core.

Police say this man 47-year-old John Henry Turner, Jr. shot and killed two people then turned the gun on himself in a double-murder suicide.

The victims are his girlfriend 50-year-old Roselyn Jackson and his neighbor 18-year-old Stephanie Hysmith.

"What we're hearing from neighbors and friends is that he has been contemplating suicide for the last couple weeks," Bobby Haddock, Washington County's Sheriff said.

Washington County authorities believe Turner became outraged after his vehicle wouldn't start. He allegedly grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun that he bought a few weeks ago and shot the windshield of his truck.

He then walked into his mobile home at the Spanish Trail trailer park where Jackson's three young grand-children were inside. The children were told by their grandmother to go down the street.

Investigators say that's when he shot and killed Jackson.

They say he then walked to Hysmith's trailer and shot and killed her. Henry then came back to his mobile home, and set it on fire.

"It looks like he set the fire in two or three different places in the home and set down in the chair and took his own life," Haddock said.

Hysmith just graduated from Holmes County High School. We learned she made a promise to her mother; she would attend college one day. The staff at the school can't believe she's gone.

"She's been a pleasure working with her. She's very, very quiet, but very personable to and this is just a tragedy," Martha Howell, one of the school staff members said.

For now, investigators are trying to figure out why Turner went on a shooting rampage.

"We've never had any trouble in here. I'm so sorry for the families that lost their family members. All we can do is pray for them," Victoria Snell, a neighbor said.

Sheriff Haddock says the motive in the case could be a number of factors, from rage to the bad economy.

Tommy, It wasn't the bad economy that caused this murder suicide it was being rejected by a young attractive woman that Turner saw every day. In Turner's fevered mind and 18 year not finding him desirable was the last straw. It is a tragic waste, but I write about it every day at The Dis Brimstone-Daily Pitchfork.

I don't think a bad economy is a motive for killing a eighteen year old girl who lives in the same tralier park as you do.
