The first homicide in Panama City in over a year happened overnight at a home on Grace Avenue in downtown Panama City.

Twenty-year-old Adam Bolton was found dead in his home around 7:30 Wednesday morning by a co-worker who came over to pick Bolton up for work.

The co-worker reportedly told police he found the front door open when he arrived. Police say they found a weapon near the body. This is the first homicide in Panama City since 2005.

"It's always a tragedy to have a homicide, but we work them as best we can and I'm optimistic we'll be able to put an early resolve on this particular case," said Panama City Police Chief John Van Etten.

Bolton had not been in this area very long. Police say he has an uncle and a cousin in Bay County.
