District 5 Commissioner Cecilia Jones announces that Chat Holly Road in Santa Rosa Beach is going to be re-paved after years of deterioration and temporary fixes to the surface.
The 3-mile road project is mostly being funded through a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation. Any remaining funds needed to complete the project will be considered by the Walton County Public Works Division.
Chat Holly Road runs parallel to Highway 98 in south Walton County and is used by many local drivers going to work at hotels, resorts, restaurants and other businesses.
“Resurfacing Chat Holly Road has been one of the biggest citizen requests in my district,” says District 5 Commissioner Cecilia Jones. “Chat Holly has been a popular road for local drivers, and it has deteriorated so much throughout the years. Our Public Works team has done a great job patching the road and keeping it open with limited funds, but it’s now time to improve the overall driving situation along this heavily-used route,” she says. “I’m very proud to see the county receive this grant, and I’m grateful to the Florida Department of Transportation, our county grants department and Public Works team in making this project finally come to fruition in my district.”
County Public Works officials say they are scheduling the resurfacing project to begin by the end of the year.
Officials expect the project to last about a year, which includes the replacement of two bridges along the roadway in addition to resurfacing the entire length of Chat Holly.
For further information, contact Commissioner Cecilia Jones at 231-2978 or the Walton County Public Works Division at 892-8108.
