State Attorney to Conduct Inquest Into Inmate Death

An investigation will be conducted into the death of an Escambia County inmate who died after he was shot with a stun gun at the jail in Pensacola.

An inquest is scheduled for March 13 into the death of Pensacola resident Jerry Preyer.

Reports say deputies tried to restrain Preyer when he became aggressive by shooting him twice with a Taser in June.

Preyer died at Baptist Hospital. He had been arrested on an aggravated battery charge and apparently had a history of mental illness.
