It seems Monday’s joint effort to find the man responsible for the recent rash of retail robberies has paid off. Several agencies have arrest warrants out for the man they believe responsible.
Retailers may soon be able to breathe easy as the multi-agency effort to find an area robber could soon be over. Lynn Haven police hauled a van and another car to their impound lot. The two were found at the Greenwood condominiums on North Lagoon Drive in Panama City Beach. Investigators say these vehicles could have been the ones used in as many as five area robberies.
"We're quite positive that this van was used in at least one of the robberies that occurred in Lynn Haven,” comments Sgt. Chris Schumann of Lynn Haven P.D.
Schumann says they found the van and this grand prix thanks to leads from Bay County sheriff's office, Panama City, and Beach police.
"Today I think really helped when we all came together face to face and shared our ideas and information and I think it again, very productive,” Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen says.
Officials now believe at least three of the robberies are related. However officials warn this man is still out there and businesses need to be on the look out. Bay County sheriff's investigators brought in the suspect's son and his girlfriend for questioning Monday night.
Lynn Haven police tell us several agencies have warrants out for the man’s arrest.
Investigators say in many of the recent hold-ups the robber waits until he's alone in the store, before pulling a gun on the clerk. He's reportedly backed out of robbing other stores when he sees more than one person working.
