Pickup Fire

Thick black smoke was visible for miles after the truck caught fire around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 98 and Thomas Drive.

The fire backed-up traffic in all directions as firefighters battled the flames. The truck was driven by Debbie White of Panama City. She said she and her two nieces were on their way to Callaway when they noticed a fire.

Traffic was already a problem at the intersection because of construction on the Thomas Drive fly-over project. In fact, work crews started diverting traffic on Thomas Drive Tuesday.

The lane shifts will be in effect for the remainder of the project.
