A Bay County Sheriff's deputy is on paid administrative leave for shooting and killing his neighbor's two Pitt Bulls Monday evening.

The incident happened on Seminole Street in Youngstown. Authorities say the two Pitt Bulls attacked a Boston terrier that belonged to Bay County
Sheriff's deputy Kenny Bibbs and his family.

Then the dogs reportedly charged toward Bibbs. The off-duty deputy shot and killed both animals. His Boston terrier also died.

Another off-duty deputy, he is a neighbor, showed up to see what happened. Witnesses claim the pit bulls' owner Brian Mead tried to attack an investigator at the scene.

Mead was arrested and charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office has turned the entire case over to the State Attorney's office for investigation. Bibb is on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome.

From what I have read the Pitbull dogs were on the Deputies property and he killed them on his property. then went to the owners property to inform them what had happened. I seriously doubt he shot one 4 times with a shotgun then the other 12 times with a pistol. in order for him to have shot 12 times with a pistol that means he had to reload it. There is a lot of rumors floating around about what happened. I am sure the investigation will provide the truth of what happened.

To the deputy, I am so sorry for the loss of your dog and to the owners of the pit bulls, I am sorry for the loss of your dogs. I am a lover of dogs and I feel badly for everyone concerned. It makes me wonder though how dangerous these pit bulls were. I think pit bulls have gotten a bad reputation over the years but still there's no way I would own one. Owners have to take responsibility for their dogs. Because of the pit bulls rep an owner needs to take away any situation where one may become dangerous. Keep them in your home or in a kennel where there is no way for escape. Maybe the terrier was on their property, I doubt the "truth" will ever be known but ALL dog owners have to control their dogs. BE RESPONSIBLE!!!!!! This could have happened to a child or even an adult. Don't place your dog in a situation where something like this may happen. Overkill? No,your dogs are gone as is the terrier. Two against one...another overkill? Again my heart goes out to you all.

I didn't see the news item. I do have several questions. Where was the owner of the pit bulls when this was going on? Where was the deputy when the attack took place? Why was the off duty deputy armed at home? How long after the pit bulls attacked the terrier past before the deputy shot the dogs? Whose property was the dog attack on? Florida Statute say public officers are to follow the same laws as everyone else. So if this deputy entered upon his neighbors property while armed he possibly commited a felony " armed trespass" will we ever know?
