Election Day is still 10 months away, but candidates are already stumping across the state. Wednesday, a new face for most panhandle residents visited our area.
Alex Penelas is the mayor of Miami-Dade County and the author of the universal pre-kindergarten amendment. Now, he's also running on the democratic ticket for Bob Graham’s U.S. Senate seat.
"Early education is very close to my heart. It's something I hope to continue to work on from the U.S. Senate,” says Penelas.
Penelas spent Wednesday afternoon with pre-k students at Oakland Terrace Elementary. The school is well on its way to implementing universal preschool with three early education classes already in place.
Penelas says he wants to continue Bob Graham’s work in Washington. Florida's senior senator announced he would not run for re-election after his short lived presidential bid last year.
