The Tourist Development Council took action on Tuesday approving several recommendations for Panama City Beach to consider.

One of those recommendations is severing the relationship with MTV-U. Ending the relationship with the cable network does not worry TDC President, Dan Rowe. He thinks the students will still come, but he's unsure what MTV-U will do in 2010.

The TDC's also recommending the city avoid all types of college age directed advertisement, sticking mostly to family geared advertisement.

Another of the approved TDC recommendations is to pay for extra law enforcement presence at the peak points of the season, including increased ATV and K-9 Units.

They also plan to make any businesses catering to the spring breakers take a workshop on avoiding potential problems.

Spring break wasn't the only hot topic discussed in Tuesday's meeting, but the board members also approved to give away almost $200,000 to Panama City Beach's Frank Brown Park.

Following a lengthy debate between the TDC members they all finally agreed to allocate the $175,000.

Members say the money will be earmarked to fund the sport's tourism employee salaries and maintenance up-keep.

All members were in favor of the $175,000 except for Andy Phillips.

He says more questions are still needed to be answered before he voted for handing over the money. However, TDC Chairmen Marty McDaniel says it's a duty the TDC owes the park.

"It only makes sense that tourism places a burden on the park and we should pay our way and it only makes sense to do that," says McDaniel.

They also plan to have an active role in city's management of the park, although at the end of the day Gayle Oberst says the council will have the final say.

Why would we sever ties with MTV? There was SOOOO much money brought in last year with all of the spring breakers. In this economy, why not have them come back?
