Area National Guard Families Hurry Up and Wait

Updated: Fri 1:06 PM, Jan 30, 2004

Many families from throughout northwest Florida are gathered at Ft. Stewart, Georgia, where they are getting ready for a hero’s homecoming.

Residents and business owners are decorating this week getting ready for the arrival of the men and women who have been gone from their homes for just over a year. It’s all part of an effort to show appreciation to the troops for the job they have done.

Several companies within the 3rd battalion 124th infantry were originally supposed to be coming back to Ft. Stewart Thursday afternoon, but they have been held up at least another day overseas. This means the anticipation that's been building up for the last several weeks is turning to anxiety and a whole other range of emotions for family members awaiting at nearby hotels. The schedule for the homecoming changes constantly.

For the latest days and times for the arrival of the various companies check the Florida National Guard’s updated website at: http://www.floridaguard.net/news/updates.asp
