Young Altha Chefs

Students in the culinary arts program at the Altha School brought home first place in Florida's 4th Annual Pro-Start Culinary Competition.

The competition features four separate categories including a gourmet meal competition, knowledge bowl, edible centerpiece and a waiter's relay.

About 130 culinary schools attended the four-year-old competition in Orlando. Until this year, one school has won three years school has won three years in a row.

Students say bringing home the trophy reminds them of David vs. Goliath.

"See some of these schools have absolute professional chefs that stay at the schools all the time and we don't have something like that for such a small to be able to get something like this means a lot to us."

Altha's knowledge bowl team will compete in the national competition in April.
