Members of the Bay County Islamic Society celebrated the journey Sunday afternoon at the mosque in Panama City.

Activities celebrating the event took place all day, and at 3 p.m. many gathered in for prayers.

One leader says it doesn't matter where someone is celebrating Sunday because it's still one religion.

Oussama Rifau says, "But, if you go everywhere in the Islamic world, you will see the same celebration with different colors of the culture of that country starting from Australia all the way to Alaska."

Mecca is the birthplace of Muhammad, the founder of Islam.
