Bruce White enjoys Calhoun County's agriculture and bio-diversity. White bought 571 acres of land in Blountstown to preserve its pristine quality. With the help of the state, he wants to keep it that way.

"The state of Florida is as a goal wants to become the most energy efficient state of the 50 states."

White calls the land "Sky Project."

"Sky is so dramatic when you’re out in the middle of the pastureland; there's no trees blocking the view; it's just gorgeous skyscapes."

And on the site, he plans to build a model community that will help Americans become more energy efficient.

The average, well-built and maintained home usually last 75 years. White expects the houses in his community to last 1,000 years.

The neighborhood white says will look similar to old world European architecture.

"The layout is the way they've been sitting for 1,000 years over in Europe the layout is the same in the villages we've modeled after."

But they'll incorporate the latest solar technology, with integrated heating and cooling systems. They'll utilize the existing Calhoun County culture. And it's far enough away from the gulf that owners should be able to afford insurance.

"We’re far away enough away from the beach to be safe from the hurricanes; our elevation is about 130 feet above sea level and we are building hurricane proof homes."

White believes the community will create about 200 new jobs. White hopes to begin building the new homes in about 14 months.
