After killing two Okaloosa County sheriff's deputies, a National Guard soldier killed himself in a chaotic April shootout at DeFuniak Springs with dozens of law officers, investigators have found.
It was widely thought that Joshua Cartwright was shot and killed by law enforcement.
Cartwright shot and killed Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies Burt Lopez and Warren "Skip" York the morning of April 25 as they were trying to arrest him for domestic violence in Crestview.
Cartwright then led officers on a two-county chase at more than 80 miles per hour that ended in the shootout at a road block in Defuniak Springs.
According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement findings, Cartwright suffered more than 17 gunshot wounds and died when he shot himself in the head with his one of own guns.
