Thursday was "the" night for each of the 38 educators named as Teacher of the Year for their individual schools. Five of those were selected as finalist for the top honor in the entire county.

They are:

  • Sandra Tidwell from Mowat Middle School
  • Glenda Greier of Hutchinson Beach Elementary
  • Kristi Fisher from Patronis Elementary
  • Doris Pigneri from Margaret K. Lewis School
  • Pam Quimuyog, a mentor teacher at Southport Elementary

The winner was Pam Quimuyog, who is a part of Bay District Curriculum and Instructional Services. Her colleagues and superiors say Quimuyog epitomizes the perfect teacher. Her classroom is actually a "laboratory" for teachers around the state to model after.

Quimoyog wins a number of cash prizes and gifts from Bay County's business and education community. She gets a cruise for two provided by the News Herald, and Quimuyog will go on to represent Bay County in the Florida Teacher of the Year program.
