New Project for Local Navy Workers

The Navy plans to build a new research center on Panama City Beach to develop unmanned vehicles and systems that operate in the air, on the ground or at sea.

The Haskell Company of Jacksonville has received a $10 million contract to design, build and provide five years of maintenance for the three-story complex.

The military has been advancing development of unmanned systems because they can limit casualties.

It's hoped by many locals that the project will help make the Navy base at Panama City Beach more secure during the next round of BRAC closings and cutbacks.
