Seven years ago, six year old Jennifer Cowan was fighting for her life.
"My dad was throwing gas on the fire like trying to make it bigger and more impressive and I was sitting right next to him and it blew up," Cowan said.
Jennifer suffered third degree burns over eighty-percent of her body. She lost the majority of her skin and sweat glands. Her twin sister Sydney donated her skin to help save her sister's life.
"I just felt it was the right thing to do to save my sister," Cowan said.
Jennifer went through many treatments, but seven years later she's ahead of the game.
"It's incredible, she's been swimming, soccer and she's very athletic," Sherri Cowan, Jennifer's mother said.
Saturday, the Cowan sisters celebrated a milestone. The girls are now 13, which mean they are officially teenagers.
"We've had a lot of ups and downs, but I think we've become stronger because if it," Cowan said.
Even though the scars on the outside are evident, Jennifer says it's what’s on the inside that's getting her through.
"Just be strong and be strong in your faith," Cowan said.
The Cowan family has shared their emotional story of survival with Good Morning America. They are hoping Oprah will invite them to her show.

WJHG, thank you for following up on this story. Too often accidents & tragedys are reported & then there is no follow up to let everyone know how things have turned out for the victims. I am glad to see that she has made such a great recovery, & has been able to move forward with her life.
