Bridge to Bridge

Last week Panama City officials rejected a request by a landowner to annex property on the beach side of the Hathaway Bridge. Just the possibility of that scenario has apparently been a wake up call for Panama City Beach officials.

They're once again talking about bridge-to-bridge annexation. Mayor Lee Sullivan is asking beach council members to discuss a straw ballot asking beach voters how they feel about one big city west of the Hathaway Bridge.

"I'm selfishly taking advantage of the issue to promote the question because never, not ever, have the people that lived out here had an opportunity to vote on that."

If the council agrees the city could request that county officials put the straw vote on an upcoming ballot. The last time the issue came up was four years ago, but it never came to a vote.
