Tyndall Air Force Base officials have set spectator security and parking instructions for this year’s Gulf Coast Salute 2007 Air Show and Open House on March 24.

As always, Air Show admission and parking are free to the public and the gates will open at 9 a.m.

Tyndall AFB is located east of Panama City, FL on Highway 98. The Illinois and Saber Gates, located on the south side of U.S. Highway 98 will be open to the General public. Designated parking signs will direct spectators to parking areas. The south side of base will be the right side of U.S. Highway 98 if traveling from Panama City

Spectators will be directed to the parking areas through signs, road barricades and base security forces. Bus transportation will be provided from the parking area to show center on the north side of base where the flight line is located. Handicapped parking will be available for spectators with valid tags.

Safety is a priority for spectators at this years show according to security forces officials. The base has a few security rules to be followed while attending the show.

Firearms, knives, aircraft transceivers, pets, any alcoholic beverages, glass bottles, and large bags are not permitted at the air show. Small coolers and backpacks will be permitted, but are subject to be searched.

Vehicles will be subject to a search. Visual inspections of hand-carried items will be conducted. There will also be a heavy K-9 presence in parking areas and at base gates.

“Security forces is the backbone of protection when pertaining to Air Force resources and base wide security,” said Tech. Sgt. Chris L. Romano, a military working dog trainer with the 325th Security Forces Squadron. “We want people to feel safe and comfortable at Tyndall.”

Department of Defense cardholders will have access to the south side of the base only. DOD cardholders attending the show will park in the same areas as the general public.

Tyndall AFB Housing residents can expect delays and should plan ahead because there is no special access. Signs along U.S. Highway 98 will point attendees to the appropriate entrances, and security forces are standing by to assist if there are any questions or concerns the day of the show.
