William "Ed" Brown was originally due in court Monday for a competency hearing.
After judge Robert Barron declared Brown was mentally competent to stand trial, Brown entered a no-contest plea to murder and robbery charges. Judge Barron then sentenced Brown to life in prison plus 15 years.
Brown killed his sister-in-law, former Mix 103 deejay Valerie Brown on June 13, 2002. Authorities say Brown and an accomplice broke-into the popular Destin deejay's Ft. Walton Beach townhouse intending to rob her to buy cocaine, but the robbery went bad and both men strangled her.
The other suspect, Carlos Musgrove, is serving seven years on unrelated charges. He has not yet been charged in this case.
