Two Die in Boating Mishap

Lieutenant Stan Kirkland of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says no foul play is suspected and the deaths Tuesday are under investigation as an accident. Autopsies are planned.

One victim is identified as 83-year-old Samuel Gilford Smith of Pensacola, Florida. The identity of the other man, visiting from Michigan, is not yet released.

Smith, according to his brother Leonard Smith, had fished in the river and bay for more than 60 years and was a skilled boater. One victim was wearing a life jacket. The men had been sightseeing.

The bay forms part of the Florida panhandle's western border with Alabama.
