New Population Figures for Area Counties

The 2000 census showed Bay County had 148,000 people. The new data says that, as of July of last year, Bay had grown to 155,000 people.

Walton is one of Florida's fastest growing counties percentage-wise, jumping from 40,000 up to 46,000 people in three years.

Okaloosa County gained 8,000 new people, and Gulf County grew from 13,000 to 15,000 people.

The populations of Calhoun, Franklin and Jackson Counties declined slightly. In fact, Franklin lost roughly nine percent of its population.

Holmes, Washington and Liberty Counties showed little or no growth over the last three years.
