The condition of a nine-year-old local boy, hit by a car Wednesday morning in Laguna Beach, is improving. But his family is still in shock over the death of his 6-year-old step-sister, who was killed by the same car.
Friends are working to get the family some financial help as they try and work through this tragedy.
Six-year-old Julie Ann Lister and nine-year-old step-brother, Michael McFall were heading to their bus stop in Laguna Beach Wednesday morning when they reportedly ran ahead the group they were walking.
They tried to cross Front Beach Road and were hit by a westbound car. Julie was pronounced dead at the scene. 9-year-old McFall is in guarded condition at a local hospital.
The children's mother Rachel Lister is a salesperson at Panama City Toyota. Her co-workers say Michael is not out of the woods yet.
"He's going to make it, but the family is going to need all the support they can get," says Billy Cumiskey.
Although Rachel's only worked at Panama City Toyota for a little less than a year, Cumsikey says she and her children quickly became a part of the family.
"All of the customers love her she's like family here she's been with us for close to a year now and we just fell in love with her and her family..her kids come up here three four times a week we fell in love with the kids just a wonderful family," D.J. Smith.
Toyota managers say the tragedy has shaken everyone up.
"So does it break your heart to know what happened? That would be an understatement yeah."
Cumiskey visited Rachel Lister Thursday. He says the family is holding up as well as can be expected under the circumstances.
"She is obviously in a rough state of condition right now," says Cumiskey.
This extended family at Panama City Toyota is already collecting donations for Rachel Lister.
"The expense that goes along with something like this tragedy. Especially not with just one child two children. The family is going to need all the support they can get," says Cumiskey.
If you can't make it by Panama City Toyota to donate, there is a benefit account established by the family at People's First Community Bank under the name Julie Ann Lister.
