If you caught a glimpse of an alligator on Back Beach Road at Panama City Beach this morning, it wasn't a Halloween hoax!
According to Stan Kirkland of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, an officer was playing show and tell at his daughter's school Friday morning for a group of kids. But when he was driving home the four foot gator jumped out of the back of his truck on Back Beach Road at Pier Park. The gator scampered north into a heavily wooded area near the Palmetto Trace subdivision. At last report is still on the loose!
The reptile has his mouth sealed with tape so he shouldn’t be able to bite anyone. If you see him wandering around, call police. Authorities are still searching for the gator at this time.

I saw a link to this story on the MSN home page the other day. To think that this story made it into the national media, but only as an embarasment to this areas wild life officials.
the concern here is that the gator may starve to death. you people complaining about.. will the officer get in trouble or the ignorant comment by someone trying to equate bringing a gator to school to educate our children about local wildlife with bringing a "hard criminal" to school need to get a reality check. this is a simple accident that poses very little threat to anyone except the gator. gators are all over our area. its their natural habitat and you live day to day without interacting with them. try channeling all your negative energy toward more important issues like the direction our country is heading or all the bad drivers on the beach or our economy. things that will really have an impact on your life.
It was an accident. The officer had educated students about wildlife. The loss of the alligator is terrible, but he didn't stop in the middle of the front put it out and run over it. It was an accident.
