Panama City's Top Cop to Hang Up His Badge

Slusser, who is seeking the democratic nomination for Bay County Sheriff, has been with the department since April 6, 1973.

He was named Chief eleven years ago Tuesday, April 13th, taking over for the departed Roger Haddix.

Chief Slusser, a New Jersey native, is out of town for a few days. He said he’d meet with local reporters and discuss his decision to retire when he returns.

The city will soon begin advertising the vacancy, and it will be up to the city manager to select the new police chief.
