Homemade Private Plane Crashes

Updated: Wed 10:23 AM, Apr 14, 2004

The plane crashed a little after 5 p.m. Tuesday, as the pilot was trying to land at the Panama City-Bay County International Airport.

An airport spokesperson says the landing gear malfunctioned on the GLAS-AIR experimental aircraft.

The pilot set the plane down, and held it on the runway as long as he could. It eventually ran-off the pavement and onto the grass runway apron. The pilot was not hurt.

The crash did not interrupt airport operations. The plane sustained moderate damage. Luckily, no one was injured.
