Updated: Fri 11:11 AM, Apr 16, 2004

In one of the most aggressive Spring Break enforcement efforts in the department’s history, agents from the State Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco made 5,220 arrests across the state between March 8 and April 11.

More than 100 AB&T agents worked in cooperation with local police departments during the enforcement effort, which focused on underage drinking, sales of alcoholic beverages to underage persons, and the seizing of fake ID’s.

During this year’s Spring Break activities, agents made the following arrests for underage drinking and sales to minors:
• Daytona Beach: 1,460
• Panama City Beach: 2,928
• Key West: 344
• Fort Lauderdale: 300
• Fort Myers: 125
• Clearwater: 63

In addition to these arrests, agents also confiscated more than 1,000 fake IDs.

This year’s enforcement effort yielded a 57 percent increase in arrests over last year’s 3,323 arrests.
