Firefighters Contain Blaze, Destroys 700 Acres

Bay County and state forestry officials were still mopping up hotspots Sunday in a fire that destroyed at least 700 acres near Youngstown.

The fire started just south of North Bear Creek Road in Bay County around noon Saturday. Fire officials say hotspots should stay contained because they're only burning in spots that have already been heavily damaged.

The wind helped start other fires hundreds of feet away from where the fire originally started. The fire spread all the way north of Scotts Ferry Road and into parts of Calhoun County.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
