The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, or FCAT, scores for schools were released Monday. Individual student scores will be out on Wednesday.

Third graders who do not pass the test are supposed to repeat the 3rd grade. Bay County third graders did well this year, 74 percent of them reading at or above grade level and 72 percent understanding math at or above grade level.

Tyndall Elementary scored the highest in the district with 90 percent of its students reading at or above grade level and 86 percent for the math scores.

Oscar Patterson Elementary improved its scores from last year, but still came in with the lowest scores for the county.

Patricia Schenck, the Curriculum Resource Teach for Bay District Schools, says the numbers are going in the right direction.

"Across the board we're very pleased with the progress and scores for our third grade students. Our twelfth grade reports, however, indicate we need to do some work with a population of students that are right on the cusp of graduation."
