An Illinois woman who nearly drowned while swimming in the Gulf of Mexico off Okaloosa Island later died in the intensive care unit at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

Two women in distress were pulled from the water behind Emerald Isle condominiums at 770 Sundial Court around 3:45 on Monday, November 2nd. One of the women, 64-year old Lana Lunde of Gibson City Illinois, was unconscious and not breathing.

Although an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputy and medics performing emergency treatment were able to get Lunde to regain a weak pulse and shallow breathing, she died around 6:30 Tuesday morning.
