A yet-to-be named Bay County Sheriff's Deputy was taken to a local hospital Wednesday morning after his cruiser crashed into a utility pole.

The wreck happened just before 9:00 a.m. on East Avenue near Early Education Head Start in the Cedar Grove community.

Witnesses say the deputy swerved to avoid hitting a bus, and slammed into a power pole, knocking out electricity to the surrounding area. The cruiser was totaled.

Paramedics took the deputy to the hospital with unknown injures. Authorities detoured traffic for about three hours. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

It didn't swerve to miss a bus...the deputy was in hot pursuit of a stolen car...no lights, no siren...he swerved because there was no warning and he almost cut off another car - almost causing two fatalities! Not sure where the reporter got his info (witnesses), but his investigative skills suck!
