TDC Figures Show a Decline in Spring Breakers

The bed tax numbers have been released by the Tourist Development Council giving the agency an accurate number of occupied hotel rooms during the month of March.

The 2004 numbers are down about 13 percent from last year. Many business owners expected a slight decline because of the decrease in cheaper motels on the beach.

However, Bob Warren, the Executive Director of the TDC, says it's not because of a shortage of rooms, just a shortage of students.

The TDC is in the process of choosing an advertising company to handle advertising for 2005 spring break.

Some business leaders say a lot of spring break students didn’t come to Panama City Beach this year after hearing that number of smaller motels were demolished to make way for the more expensive high rise condominiums.
