About 400 students from schools in Okaloosa County came to Hurlburt Field Thursday to learn about wildlife conservation.

Animal refuge organizations showed off several animals that survived near death experiences and now must remain in captivity.

Officials stressed the importance of respecting animals you find in the wild and they also talked about other ways of protecting the environment.

Hurlburt Field officials say this was the biggest Earth Day celebration they've had in eight years.
