Some people living in St. Andrews are breathing a sigh of relief, now that a high-rise condominium planned for their neighborhood has been shot down by city commissioners.
A developer was planning to build the 14-story condo on this lot off of Highway 98, but needed to get the land codes changed to commercial before going any further.
The Panama City Commission followed the planning board's recommendation to deny the land use change. Their vote to deny the land use change was unanimous.
Neighbors living next to the proposed site are relieved, but say they are worried about future development plans.
"I have a feeling there will be other offers on the table, but our neighborhood is united, and I'm confident the Commission will vote the same way if something else comes up like that," says St. Andrews resident Dave Swigler.
