During the government's presentation Monday, jurors heard about ten recordings of wire-tapped calls. Most of those calls were between Hector Melara and Dr. Michael Reed.
Melara was the drug dealer for Cooper and Reed; he and Reed were setting up a drug deal for a kilo of cocaine. Melara was allegedly running late on the morning of May 27, when the transaction was scheduled to take place.
Reed said he had to go to work. So, Cooper called Melara, telling him to wait ten minutes. She had guests at the house she and Reed shared on the west end of Panama City Beach. Fifteen minutes later, Cooper called him and said he could come by because her guests were gone.
Cooper's calls, totaling less than one minute, are at the center of this case, since she is charged with using a telephone to facilitate a drug transaction.
Cooper's attorney, Jim White, says her calls did not aid and assist a drug transaction, since it was already planned by Melara and Reed.
The jury is expected to get the trial Tuesday. White says he has not made a decision as to whether Cooper will testify.
