Forty-four year old Teresa McKee was back in the courtroom today, asking for a continuance in her upcoming murder trial.
McKee is accused of killing her neighbor, a sometimes friend, who was supposedly sleeping with McKee’s husband.
But McKee’s family says she's innocent.
Teresa McKee’s children sat in the Walton County Courtroom Thursday, watching as their mother walked into court, shackled from head to toe.
McKee is accused of the August murder her friend and neighbor, Stephanie Lockwood.
According to reports, the two were on-again-off again friends and neighbors in the community of Liberty, just north of De Funiak Springs.
McKee allegedly went to Lockwood’s mobile home, engaged in an argument with Lockwood, and then shot her.
But McKee’s son-in-law says she's innocent.
"I just think they have the wrong person in this case, I mean they are like sisters, they really are."
Thursday, McKee's lawyer requested a continuance in her case.
The judge approved the continuance, as well as the prosecution's request for McKee to submit to a buccal sample test.
And if McKee is found guilty, public defender Lenny Platterborze says she could be locked up for life.
"Because of the capital indictment the state could seek the death penalty. It is my understanding that they have not elected to seek it, so the maximum she would be looking at is life without parole.”
McKee's trial has now been rescheduled for February.
