FOUNTAIN-The elderly man who was rushed to a local hospital after running into the back of a semi-truck in Fountain is still in critical condition at a local hospital.

Florida Highway Patrol Investigators say it happened just after 5p.m. Saturday night off of State Road 20 near Sandstone Road in Fountain.

Investigators say Peggy Dempsey was attempting to back her semi north across both lanes of State Road 20 into the driveway of D & P Trucks.

But at the same time 78-year-old Marvin Strickland was driving this small truck west on 20.

Investigators say the road had not been properly closed down to allow for her to back the semi across the roadway.

They say Strickland didn't see the truck and so he plowed right into the trailer that was being towed by the truck.

Investigators say Strickland was rushed to Bay Medical Center in critical condition.

The truck driver says she's been driving her truck for over 20 years and this is the first time anything like this has ever happened.

"When I come home. We've been doing this eight years. We've been living here eight years and I've been backing in that driveway for eight years day, night. I was always backing in and there has always been someone out her directing for me," says Dempsey.

Investigators are ticketing Dempsey with improper backing, improper stopping, standing or parking on the roadway.

We are told a homicide investigation unit was brought out to investigate.
