Last month was “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”, but a group of 22 South Walton women have decided you can never hear too much about it.

They call themselves the "Polka Dot Pool Pussy Cats" and they're turning heads with their new calendar project to promote breast cancer awareness. The calendar girls of 30A found their inspiration from the silver screen. If you think this looks like a scene from a movie, it is. It’s a clip from the 2003 British movie 'Calendar Girls'. A group of women on 30A are giving it a local debut.

Harriet Crommelin was the first sponsor to jump on board with the project and describes the “Polka Dot Pool Pussy Cats” as a “hoot."
Miss November’s Nancy McConnell says the group formed a bond over water aerobics.

"The “Polka Dot Pool Pussy Cats” exercise every day Monday- Friday and we have blue polka- dotted bathing suits that all match." But the ladies, who range in age from their mid 40's to mid 70's, decided they needed to do something bold to support a cause they all believe in. So they shed their polka dot suits to pose nude for a calendar.

The calendar girls of 30A have made it their mission to raise money for the fight against breast cancer and to promote awareness to their community, while having a little fun while they were at it. Kris Chavez is Miss September and also served as the photographer for the calendar and put everyone in their best light.

" The girls took awhile to warm up, but once they did and started doing their ‘little thing’ it was wonderful. And one or two mentioned that it was something on their to do list that they were able to check off."

Donna Johns is a breast cancer survivor and beat the odds thanks to the friendship and support from these women. "I just didn't think that I would ever have cancer. It was an absolute shock and it's an emotional roller coaster that you go through. Johns received regular phone calls and prayers from the group who she felt helped her fight her battle. But don't mistake their playful stunt as being too cavalier.

They all had a serious reason for taking part in the calendar says Miss. November’s Judy Foster. "There are still those common threads that bond us all together; wanting to stay healthy, enjoying life and wanting to give back to the community.”

Johns is so thankful this dynamic group of women gave her the strength to be a survivor. "They are just an incredible group of women with great hearts. They have such big hearts and always wanting to do something to help someone else." The “Polka Dot Pool Pussycats” will host a calendar launch party on December 11th at 7:00pm. Calendars will sell for $25 dollars with proceeds benefiting breast cancer research.
