Charlie Crist says his office reached the settlement with Sprint Communications after the company switched people to Sprint long-distance without their permission.
It’s illegal and is known as “slamming”.
It happened when people bought unrelated items at electronics stores. Someone would buy an item at the store. Then the sales clerk would ask them to sign what looked like a typical sales receipt, but really the customers unknowingly signed a letter of authorization for the long distance service.
Sprint provides local telephone service in several northwest Florida counties.
If you are a victim of this slamming call Sprint for restitution at 1-800-745-1149.
