60,000 Shoppers Light Up Midnight Madness
The biggest shopping day of the year was preceded by the biggest shopping night of the year overnight at the Silver Sands Outlet Mall's "Midnight Madness". Retail stores generate the majority of their holiday revenue from Black Friday sales and this year was no different. Newschannel 7's Meagan O'Halloran was at Silver Sands early this morning to catch every minute of it.

This morning in Miramar Beach they shopped ‘til they dropped, or at least 'til the sun came up.
Meisha Stallings is a senior at Florida State University and did some shopping on her holiday weekend. She rattles off her wish list.
"Clothes, and purses, and shoes, and maybe some Christmas presents."
Christine Marchese says coming to Destin every Thanksgiving has been a family tradition, and now Midnight Madness is becoming one too. Marchese is on a mission to hit up all of her favorite stores.

Stallings has her favorite stores in the outlet too.
"Tommy Hilfiger and Bass Shoes, Ann Taylor, and Banana Republic"
Stores opened as early as 10:00 P.M. and people braved the long lines and crowded stores to find all of this year's deals and discounts.
Dennis Baptiste is in town from Tampa visiting relatives and couldn’t even wait ‘til he got home to try on his new clothes.
“I'm actually wearing one right now, it's a $40 Calvin Klein hooded sweatshirt and it was off by about $60" says Baptiste.
So is it family fun or a frenzied fiasco?
I asked Marchese, "Are you nuts?
She doesn’t seem to think so.
“No, not really. We're just bargain shopping"
Kyle Caminiti only lives a few miles away from Silver Sands and said it took him ten minutes just to get into the parking lot. He thinks it’s chaotic but says it’s half of the fun.
"Running from store to store, hoping that no one's running out of anything" says Caminiti
Marchese brought her whole family from Louisiana with her and says Black Friday is a family outing.
"It’s just a great way of getting good sales and having fun and torturing my husband. Shopping in the middle of the night is something you do once a year. And if I did this everyday, yeah I would be crazy."
Angela Triplett explains the method behind the madness in the tradition of Black Friday.
"The reason they call it Black Friday is because this is the time of year that retailers move from the red to the black and this is when they start making the majority of sales from the entire holiday season"
The holiday spirit was in the air. A gigantic Christmas tree sits in front of Saks 5th Avenue with the Christmas lights synchronized to the rhythm of Christmas Carols.
On the other end of Silver Sands plaza, a live DJ kept busy shoppers entertained.
But the best deal of all…
Silver Sands gave away six $1000 shopping sprees, their biggest giveaway ever.
Stallings got a phone call shortly after she returned from her midnight shopping.
She came back in a hurry, grinning from ear to ear.
"I just won a thousand dollars. It's very exciting."
Gary Roycroft was the DJ for Midnight Madness and was lifting spirits throughout the night.
"You gotta spread the good cheer and get some good energy going.”
Now there's a gift that keeps on giving.
Silver Sands says the most popular Black Friday purchases so far are winter accessories like gloves, hats, and scarves as well as purses.
And this season's most popular colors?
Plaids and pastels.
